Richard G. Castro

Richard G. CastroRichard Castro is a world expert in the plasma spraying of beryllium alloys. A Technical Staff Member in the Materials Technology Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), he established one of the only facilities in the world capable of performing beryllium plasma spray research. There he directs research initiatives, developing beryllium plasma spray technology for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, for lightweight support structures on NASA space telescopes, for the US nuclear weapons program, and for high temperature coating and structural applications on future tactical strike fighters. Richard is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence He is an active member of the LANL Hispanic Diversity Working Group Educational and Outreach Committee, mentoring students in science and engineering.
